Education:

FSW applicants must have at least the equivalent of a Canadian high school education. However, since this is a highly competitive immigration class, we strongly recommend having two post-secondary qualifications to earn extra points in the Express Entry skills transferability factor. These qualifications can include two bachelor’s degrees, a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, or a postsecondary or postgraduate diploma alongside a three-year degree program.

Age

Applicants can earn up to 12 points for their age, with the maximum awarded up to age 35. After 35, they lose 1 point per year, and by age 47, they receive 0 points for age.

Given the competitive nature of Express Entry, we strongly recommend applicants be 35 or younger to stay competitive in the pool. Older applicants may need a job offer, provincial nomination, or other factors to boost their scores in the Express Entry pool.

Experience

To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker program, applicants need at least one year of continuous, full-time, or equivalent part-time post-qualification experience at NOC level 0, A, or B.

For optimal competitiveness in Express Entry, we recommend having a minimum of three years of qualifying work experience. This not only meets eligibility criteria but also enhances points in the skills transferability factors, improving your chances in the selection process.

Language

Applicants applying under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program must achieve a minimum of CLB 7 (IELTS 6.0) in each of the four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Achieving a higher score, such as CLB 9 or higher, is highly recommended as it not only improves your overall score but also earns additional points in the Skills Transferability factor of Express Entry.

For those proficient in a second language (English or French), gaining proficiency can add an extra 4 points to your FSW points total, enhancing your eligibility and competitiveness in the Express Entry system.

Adaptability

Applicants for the Federal Skilled Worker program can earn an additional 10 points in the adaptability factor. Points can be awarded for various factors such as the language skills of their spouse (English or French at CLB 5), having a blood relative (Canadian citizen or permanent resident) like a parent, grandparent, child, uncle, aunt, sibling, niece, or nephew, who resides in Canada. Points can also be awarded for Canadian post-secondary studies or work experience of the principal applicant or spouse, as well as arranged employment. These factors enhance the applicant’s adaptability and potential integration into Canadian society, contributing to their overall eligibility and competitiveness in the immigration process.

Job Offer

Applicants can earn an additional 10 points for securing a full-time, permanent job offer lasting at least one year. Such a job offer carries significant weight in Express Entry: 200 additional points if it’s at a managerial level or 50 points for professional or technical positions (NOC A or B).

  • 5 family members: $28,994
  • 6 family members: $32,700
  • 7 family members: $36,407

For families larger than seven, add $3,706 for each additional member.
